5/11/2021 Quick Update

Good dry fly fishing and high water have either made it easy for dry fly fishing or tough depending on where you are and what you are doing.

The rivers are tough to wade but the boat has made it easier. With the low warm water early in the season, to now the bugs are a bit confused. It’s a weird year but the fish seem to be pretty healthy. Streamer bite slowed down, nymphing is tough with this much water, but the heads are showing up on top. Hendricksons, March browns and BWOs and caddis have been are meal tickets.

5/4/2021 River Report

Had a roller coaster of days. Rain, wind, sun….every day has been dynamically different. All the fish you see below were taken on either hendricksons or caddis, on top. We’ve been over hatched and other days have seen zero bugs. March browns have shown up around the system in the warmer water areas. Hendricksons are still here and caddis bank sippers are here and there. Lots of pressure but at least we have water. Most fish appear to be pretty healthy. Got one with a big rapala mouth on it. We’re all booked until June. If you need a day, say something now or you’ll be out of luck. Most dry fly fish haven’t been easy. Good casting is getting rewarded.

5/1/2021 Fishing Report

We got a nice dose of water. Just what the doctor prescribed. This should make the fish happy and spread out the anglers a bit. Water seems to be holding on and with more to come we’re in good shape.

This morning we have light snow flurries with some higher peaks requiring the snow wiper for the truck.

Yesterday’s wind was difficult but we popped some good fish. Took most on dry and a nice one on a streamer. We had paraleps and some nice juicy female hendricksons hatching. If we found a fish rising we caught it. They were not difficult, you just had to find them. If your out today find a sheltered place and wait for bugs. The fish will do there part.

4/26/2021 River Report

Not the best of days. Wind was a menace again. We found solid fish rising in little hamlet of no wind. Broke a big fish off on initial roll. Took a great fish on the bobber rig. Bug activity was not good. The system is still low on water. Angling pressure was high on wading rivers and low on boat accessible rivers. Bugs are acting “funny” I spoke with some other river rats and they are saying the same thing. Where are the Hendricksons in there cycle? Are we looking to hard to soon? Weird year but we’re finding fish. Hopefully rain later this week materializes. Dance.
